Cindy Blackman Santana announces her new solo album Coherence on July 31 via Mack Avenue Records, led by the first single “Illumination,” out June 5. Blending spiritual jazz, fusion, rock, and improvisation, Coherence brings together an extraordinary cast of musicians—including Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin, Matt Garrison, Ray Angry, Dave Eggar, and Blackman Santana’s touring band—for a fearless and deeply collaborative record driven by rhythmic interplay, expansive improvisation, and dynamic live energy.

The album presents and accentuates the many musical aspects of Cindy Santana Blackman and her band. They are a true return to form paying homage to those before her, while blazing a path for others to follow. The songs can only be characterized as powerful, meaningful, and melodic, centered on musical conversation.

“Coherence is about everything in creation coming together,” says Blackman Santana. “It’s all one—people and kingdoms, whether it be the plant kingdom, the animal kingdom, or the mineral kingdom. We come from the creator. When I look at it that way, I can feel the totality of everything. In these times, we need unity. We need to understand that we are not different. We may be wrapped in different things like languages and cultures, but the core of every single human being is light.”
